Here's an item I've wanted for myself for some time, but the right size wasn't available. Now I've cajoled someone into making me a set of truncated cones (frustums) to help in my segmented projects. As a result, I can offer 6", 8", and 10" diameter sizes. What it is: It's a 45 degree angle cone of 6", 8", or 10" diameter and 2" thick made of a durable metal. Each cone is drilled and thru-threaded with a 3/4" x 10 TPI thread so it can be mounted either way on a One Way Revolving Center (available at www.woodturnerscatalog.com) in your tailstock. Use the 6" cone on projects from 2"-6" outer diameter. Use the 8" cone for 4"-8" diameters. Use the 10" cone for 6"-10" diameters. How can a truncated cone (frustum) help?Glad you asked! Afix a flat sanding disk (80-100 grit) to the large flat side and here are 5 good uses:
Since these cones are fairly heavy, they automatically end up in the Priority Mail category. For US destinations, that's pretty nice because the postage is a fixed $10.70 for a box that will hold any one of the cones. For other destinations, it's not so nice. Shipping one of these to Canada moves the postage up to $23.65; for other destinations it's $38.95. As a result, I present you with 7 purchase buttons to accommodate all the realistic possibilities. |
